Help with employment lawyer costs.

A low income does not mean help is out of reach. Start with support already available and ask a lawyer which route suits your situation.

01

Check existing support first

Check your legal expenses insurance and trade union membership. Ask about coverage for the employment dispute, waiting periods and conditions before incurring costs yourself.

02

Ask Het Juridisch Loket for an initial assessment

Het Juridisch Loket provides information and may be able to help or refer you, depending on your circumstances. Ask about the current conditions for personal assistance and a possible reduction in your personal contribution.

03

Discuss a legal aid grant with a lawyer

The lawyer applies to the Legal Aid Board (Raad voor Rechtsbijstand) for a grant called a toevoeging. The Board considers income, assets and the importance of the case, among other factors. This route does not cover every case or every lawyer.

04

Always agree on costs

Subsidised legal assistance is not always free. A personal contribution and other costs may remain. If your income has fallen substantially, an assessment using a more recent income year may be relevant; ask your lawyer about the current conditions.
